Arsenal have reached an agreement with Sporting CP to sign striker Viktor Gyokeres in a major summer transfer breakthrough.
After weeks of negotiations, the north London side have finally secured a deal for the Sweden international, who is expected to fly to London shortly for his medical and complete the move to the Emirates.
The 26-year-old forward has been one of Arsenal’s top targets throughout the transfer window. The club had been in parallel discussions with Sporting for Gyokeres and RB Leipzig for Benjamin Šeško. But with Šeško staying in Germany, Arsenal intensified efforts to land the Sporting star, and now they’ve got their man.
Deal Worth £64m Finalised
According to multiple sources, including transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, the Gunners will pay a total of €73.5 million (£64m), including add-ons, to bring Gyokeres to the Premier League. The final fee is slightly below the €80m initially demanded by Sporting, after both sides found common ground during advanced talks.
A major factor in sealing the deal was a reduction in agent commission, which helped move negotiations forward after weeks of back-and-forth.
Gyokeres’ Sporting Record Turns Heads
Gyokeres has enjoyed a sensational spell at Sporting CP since his move from Coventry City in 2023. He’s netted an astonishing 97 goals in 102 appearances for the Portuguese side, quickly becoming one of the most lethal forwards in Europe.
His time at Sporting came to an uneasy end following a fallout with the club’s hierarchy, and the striker made it clear he was ready for a new challenge—preferably in the Champions League.
Despite reported interest from Liverpool and Manchester United, Gyokeres was said to favour a move to Arsenal. He now joins Mikel Arteta’s side as they prepare another push for the Premier League title, having fallen just short last season.
Summer Business Picking Up Pace
The addition of Gyokeres adds to an already active summer for Arsenal. The club have completed deals for goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga, midfielder Christian Nørgaard, and Real Sociedad’s Martin Zubimendi. Deals are also in place for Chelsea winger Noni Madueke and Valencia defender Cristhian Mosquera.
There’s also interest in Crystal Palace’s Eberechi Eze, and Real Madrid’s Rodrygo remains a potential option before the window shuts.
Arteta has made it clear that adding firepower up front was a priority this summer, and in Gyokeres, Arsenal have landed a striker who brings both physical presence and a proven goal-scoring record.
What Comes Next
Gyokeres is expected in London within days to finalise personal terms and complete his medical. If all goes to plan, he’ll soon be unveiled as Arsenal’s newest signing and could join the squad for their pre-season preparations.
The Gunners are aiming to go one better this season after two strong but ultimately title-less campaigns. With Viktor Gyokeres leading the line, Arsenal fans will be hoping he’s the missing piece needed to bring the Premier League trophy back to the Emirates, for the first time since 2004.
