Barcelona have reached an agreement with Girona for goalkeeper Marc-Andre ter Stegen to join the club on loan until the end of the season.
The deal has now been finalised between the two La Liga sides, with Ter Stegen already approving the move. Barcelona are expected to cover around 90 per cent of the goalkeeper’s wages during his time at Girona.

The decision follows a difficult season for the German international at Camp Nou. After missing the start of the campaign due to back surgery, Ter Stegen has found himself behind Joan Garcia in the pecking order and has made just one appearance so far this season.
With limited playing time available, the loan move offers Ter Stegen the chance to return to regular action in La Liga. The goalkeeper has been informed that consistent minutes are important if he is to maintain his place as Germany’s first-choice keeper ahead of the 2026 World Cup.
Girona, managed by Michel, are keen to strengthen their squad for the second half of the season and see Ter Stegen’s experience as a major boost. The 31-year-old brings a wealth of top-level experience, having spent nearly a decade as Barcelona’s number one.
The move is expected to be completed in the coming days, with Ter Stegen set to begin a new chapter as he looks to regain form, fitness and regular match rhythm before the season reaches its decisive stage.
