Manchester United have taken a step forward in their pursuit of RB Leipzig striker Benjamin Šeško, with the Slovenian reportedly impressed by the club’s early approach.

The 21-year-old has been on United’s radar for some time, and following a difficult season at Old Trafford, strengthening the attack remains a key priority for the summer. Club officials have already held talks with Šeško’s representatives, outlining their long-term vision and presenting initial proposals.
According to reports from Sky Germany, those discussions went down well. Šeško is believed to be open to the move and is encouraged by the project laid out by United. However, the deal is far from done. RB Leipzig are understood to be holding out for a fee in the region of £64 million.
United aren’t the only Premier League club in the running. Newcastle United have also shown strong interest and view Šeško as a possible successor to Alexander Isak, who continues to be linked with a summer switch to Liverpool.
With Viktor Gyökeres no longer an option after sealing a high-profile move to Arsenal, United appear to have shifted their focus fully to Šeško as a viable alternative.
The striker has found the net 39 times for Leipzig across the last two seasons and is considered one of Europe’s most promising young forwards. His pace, physicality and eye for goal have made him a standout figure in the Bundesliga.
What could be key in his decision is how any potential new club plays. Speaking previously about his development at Leipzig, Šeško said he values joining clubs that fit his style and allow for continuity. “It was very important for me to go to a place that plays a similar style of football,” he said shortly after his move to Germany. “I already knew what I had to do and didn’t have to go through a whole learning process again.”
He later reinforced that point after extending his Leipzig contract, saying: “In the future, I want to play for a club that suits me, that brings out the best in me. That’s the most important thing.”
Šeško’s calm, considered approach to his career makes him an attractive target for clubs looking to invest in long-term quality rather than just big names.
As it stands, United appear to be leading the race, but negotiations with Leipzig, and interest from elsewhere, mean there is still plenty to be decided before any deal is done.
