Alexander Isak has returned to Newcastle United’s training ground just days after the club rejected a major offer from Liverpool for the Swedish striker.

The 24-year-old, who has quickly become one of the Premier League’s most admired forwards, was back in training on Monday after flying in from Spain over the weekend. His return comes at a time when speculation around his future has intensified.

Sources close to the situation indicate that Liverpool submitted an opening bid worth £120 million plus add-ons. Newcastle, however, turned the offer down immediately, underlining their firm stance on retaining their top scorer.

Isak, who joined the Magpies from Real Sociedad in 2022, did not travel with the squad on their recent pre-season tour of Asia. His absence raised questions about his commitment, especially amid reports that he is open to a move to Anfield.

Speaking to The Daily Mail, Newcastle manager Eddie Howe made it clear that standards of professionalism remain high at the club.

“You have to earn the right to train with us. The player has a responsibility to be part of the team and act in the right way,” Howe said. “No one can expect to behave poorly and carry on as normal.”

Despite these strong words, there’s no indication that Newcastle are rushing to sell. Isak remains under contract until 2028, and the club have made it known that they are not under financial pressure to part ways with him.

Liverpool, meanwhile, remain in the market for attacking reinforcements. With Luis Díaz already sold to Bayern Munich, and further departures possible, the Reds are expected to return with an improved offer before the transfer window closes.

The Merseyside club have already secured the signatures of Florian Wirtz and Hugo Ekitike this summer, but manager Arne Slot is believed to want another proven goalscorer to add firepower to his frontline.

Sources say personal terms with Isak would not be a stumbling block if Newcastle were to change their position. However, the Magpies are likely to stand firm until they line up a suitable replacement — making the coming weeks crucial in determining the outcome of this potential blockbuster move.

For now, Isak is back training with his teammates at Benton, but the uncertainty around his future is far from over.
