Manchester United have rejected an opening approach from Barcelona for Marcus Rashford, making their position clear as discussions around the forward’s future begin to take shape.
Rashford joined Barcelona on a season-long loan in the summer of 2025, with an option already agreed to make the move permanent next year. That clause allows Barcelona to sign the England international for a fixed fee of €30 million once the loan spell ends.
The forward has settled well in Spain and has played a key role this season, scoring eight goals and providing 11 assists in 29 matches. His performances have left Barcelona keen to keep him beyond the current campaign.
Despite that interest, Barcelona are understood to be exploring ways to reduce the cost of a permanent deal due to ongoing financial pressures. Reports from Spain claim the club has now made an initial offer below the agreed figure.
The proposed deal is said to be worth around €22 million, with most of the money spread across several years and additional bonuses linked to performance. Manchester United, however, have not been convinced.
United have rejected the proposal and remain firm on the original agreement. The club are not willing to sell Rashford for less than the €30 million already set out in the loan contract.
While Barcelona continue to admire the player, no agreement has been reached, and any final decision on Rashford’s future is expected to come later in the season. For now, Manchester United have made it clear that the terms will not be changed.
