Real Madrid have reportedly made a €100 million offer to sign Tottenham defender Cristian Romero, as they look to strengthen their squad immediately.
According to reports from Spain, the bid has been submitted as part of an effort by club president Florentino Pérez to address Real Madrid’s defensive issues during a difficult season. The Spanish giants are believed to be keen on adding an experienced centre-back to stabilise their back line.
Romero has been one of Tottenham’s standout performers and remains a key figure in the Premier League side’s defence. His consistency and leadership have reportedly made him an attractive option for Real Madrid as they search for solutions.
Madrid’s interest comes after another disappointing result in Europe, where they were beaten 4–2 by Benfica in the Champions League. Caretaker manager Álvaro Arbeloa has overseen mixed results since replacing Xabi Alonso, and the club are continuing to assess their options both on and off the pitch.
Tottenham, however, are not expected to be keen on selling Romero at this stage of the season. The Argentina international plays a central role in their squad, and losing him midway through the campaign would leave a significant gap in defence.
Romero is under contract in north London, and with limited time remaining in the transfer window, completing a deal of this size would be challenging. Even so, a bid of this level could test Tottenham’s stance and open discussions.
For Real Madrid, the move underlines their desire to act quickly in the market as they attempt to improve results and regain momentum. Whether the offer leads to negotiations or is turned down outright remains to be seen.
