In a stunning transfer coup, Real Madrid have swooped in to secure the signature of Bournemouth’s rising star Dean Huijsen. The Spanish giants have beaten off fierce competition from Premier League heavyweights Chelsea and Liverpool, as well as German powerhouse Bayern Munich, to land the 20-year-old defensive gem.

The Dutch-born Spain international, who has been a revelation since joining the Cherries just last summer, is set to complete his medical before signing a five-year contract with the 15-time European champions. Real Madrid will trigger Huijsen’s £50 million release clause, payable in three manageable instalments, a shrewd bit of business for a player widely regarded as one of Europe’s most promising centre-backs.

Bournemouth stand to make a staggering profit on their initial £12.5 million investment, quadrupling their money in just 12 months. The south coast club had been preparing for this eventuality, with plans already in place to sign Huijsen’s successor.

Incoming Madrid manager Xabi Alonso, who looks set to replace Carlo Ancelotti, has personally endorsed the signing. The former Liverpool and Real Madrid midfielder is reportedly considering a switch to a 3-4-3 formation and views the ball-playing Huijsen as the perfect fit for his tactical vision.

The defender caught the eye during Bournemouth’s impressive 2-1 victory over Arsenal at the Emirates earlier this month, further cementing his reputation as one of the game’s most exciting young defenders.

For Madrid, Huijsen represents the future of their backline and joins Trent Alexander-Arnold as one of the first signings of what promises to be an exciting new era at the Santiago Bernabéu.

What do you think of this massive transfer? Is Huijsen worth the £50 million fee? Will he be the cornerstone of Madrid’s defence for years to come? Drop your thoughts in the comments below!
