After ten years in the studio, Rio Ferdinand has confirmed he is stepping down from his role as a football pundit with TNT Sports. The former Manchester United and England defender will make his final appearance on-air during coverage of this Saturday’s Champions League final.
In a statement shared on his X (formerly Twitter) account, Ferdinand reflected on his decade-long media journey and the memories he takes with him as he moves on to new ventures.

“Since retiring from football, it has been a privilege talking about the game I love for a decade for sports fans watching BT Sport and TNT Sports,” he wrote.
Ferdinand also thanked the production team working behind the scenes, praising their effort and dedication, often away from the spotlight.
“As I turn the page to the next chapter, I carry with me countless memories,” he continued. “I’m excited about what the future holds — spending more time with my family and focusing on Rio Ferdinand Presents and other business interests.”
He ended by hinting that this may not be a full goodbye, saying he hopes to stay connected to fans in different ways.
TNT Sources: Departure Is Friendly, Future Door Left Open
According to sources close to TNT Sports, the decision is entirely amicable. While Ferdinand is stepping away for now, the broadcaster has not ruled out future collaborations. The relationship remains strong, and the “door remains open.”
Ferdinand began his broadcasting career with BT Sport back in May 2013, just after his retirement from professional football. He quickly became a familiar face across the network’s European football coverage, offering insight and analysis from a player’s perspective.
In 2023, BT Sport officially rebranded as TNT Sports, with Ferdinand continuing in his role as a key member of the punditry team.
