Senegal and Morocco have both been hit with heavy fines by the Confederation of African Football following disorderly scenes during the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations final.
CAF confirmed the sanctions ten days after Senegal secured the title with a 1–0 extra-time victory over hosts Morocco in Rabat. The governing body ruled that both teams breached disciplinary regulations during and after the final.
Senegal have received the larger penalty and will pay more than $700,000 for unsporting conduct involving players, coaching staff and supporters. Head coach Pape Bouna Thiaw has been suspended for five matches, while Iliman Ndiaye and Ismaila Sarr have both been handed two-match bans.
The punishments follow a protest during the match that saw Senegal players briefly leave the pitch. The team disputed a late decision by the referee to disallow a goal, claiming officiating bias in favour of the host nation.
Morocco have also been fined more than $400,000. CAF cited unsporting conduct, interference with match officials and the use of laser devices by supporters as reasons for the sanction. Defender Achraf Hakimi has received a two-match suspension, with one match suspended for a year, while midfielder Ismael Saibari has been banned for three matches.
CAF also rejected Morocco’s formal protest against Senegal, dismissing claims of rule breaches during the final. The decision confirms Senegal as champions following their extra-time win.
The disciplinary action brings the 2025 AFCON tournament to a close, with CAF stressing the importance of respect for match officials and fair play at its major competitions.
