World Cup winner could be set to join Inter Miami

TRENDING TODAY

With the 2025 summer transfer window well underway, several clubs in several countries and continents are moving to get their business done quickly and efficiently.

We have already seen a number of high profile signings made, and there are no doubt plenty more of those to come over the next couple of months.

An example of a high profile acquisition that could be made is Rodrigo de Paul of Atletico Madrid, who has been linked with a move to MLS side Inter Miami this week.

According to high profile journalist Fabrizio Romano, Inter Miami have now started talks with Atletico for the midfielder. He states that Miami want to keep their ambitions high after the Club World Cup, and World Champion de Paul is their main target.

Crucially, Romano states that de Paul is open to the move to Miami, and that talks are underway. No doubt the idea of playing with compatriot, international team mate, and friend Lionel Messi is a big incentive for him.

He would also be playing with former Atletico team mate Luis Suarez, with the two playing together in Spain’s capital during the 21/22 season. There are also a number of other Latin Americans in the Inter Miami squad, including several Argentines. Manager Javier Mascherano is also a compatriot.

Although de Paul has played fairly well for Atletico, there has been no progression on contract talks – and with his current deal expiring next summer, they probably feel like now is the time to cash in.

With the player having turned 31 back in May, and the aforementioned contract situation, Diario AS are reporting that he could be available for around 15 million Euros. That feels viable for Inter Miami, though you have to wonder why European sides would not be interested at that price.

Perhaps after eleven years in Europe, de Paul would rather play closer to home, and have the chance to play with his friends Messi and Suarez over in South Beach. Sometimes football can all be about your surroundings.
